Achieving net-zero emissions in shipping requires a fundamental transition from fossil fuels to green alternatives and deep collaboration across the value chain. Ports, as critical land-sea interfaces, are uniquely positioned to act as catalysts in this transformation—serving as green fuel suppliers, incentive providers, and multi-stakeholder connectors. By advancing technology readiness, reducing costs, and scaling up green fuel supply, ports can play a pivotal role in accelerating maritime decarbonization while enhancing their own competitiveness and contributing to regional energy transitions.
This report consolidates and analyzes international best practices in port-led promotion of green marine fuels, aiming to provide actionable insights for port authorities and relevant stakeholders to better leverage the pivotal role of ports in driving the maritime energy transition.
