Implementation of Sustainable Transport in Asia and the Pacific – Promoting Socially Sustainable Transport through Improving Nonmotorized Transport

The project will facilitate the demonstration of quality NMT facilities and support the creation of technical guidance tools that will help capture the lessons learned of the NMT demonstrations in three locations: Indonesia, Lao PDR, and the Philippines.

The demonstration efforts are designed to encourage replication as a way to mainstream NMT within ADB’s investment portfolio and to deliver more NMT support across the Asia and Pacific region.

The project consists of three principal activities:

      (i) capacity building, stakeholder discussions and initial planning analysis to be undertaken as part of project conceptualization

(ii) deployment of a small number of demonstration NMT vehicles in the cities to gauge applicability and to stimulate full implementation of the supporting infrastructure and

(iii) development of a design guide on NMT facilities to capture the lessons from the demonstration efforts and to highlight the social benefits of these types of projects.
