1st Yangtze River Delta Clean Air Forum successfully held in Shanghai

The 1st Yangtze River Delta (YRD) Clean Air Forum was held as a special session of “2nd Conference of Sino-US Regional and Urban Air Quality Management on PM2.5 and Ozone”, organized by the Clean Air Initiative for Asian Cities (CAI-Asia), in the collaboration with the Shanghai Academy of Environmental Sciences (SAES) and with support from the Fu Tak Iam (FTI) Foundation, on June 20, 2012 at Shanghai Majesty Plaza.

The session was attended by over 50 senior level participants from the YRD, top Chinese universities and research institutes and international speakers on air quality management to explore effective approaches and solutions to the RAQM challenges in the YRD.

The Special Session focused on improving emissions inventory and PM2.5 and VOC monitoring systems for RAQM policy development and exploring city clean air reports as a tool for effective public communication. The session tackled research results of improving PM2.5 monitoring, emissions and modeling systems for RAQM policy development and exploring city clean air reports as a tool for effective public communication. As the session was well attended by Environmental Protection Bureau (EPB) and Environmental Monitoring Center (EMC) representatives from the YRD, the session also enhanced further the communication between cities, and provided insights and needs to YRD region. Shanghai, Zhejiang and Jiangsu representatives updated the meeting on the status of the air quality management and pollution control in their cities or provincial level highlighting on their challenges. City participants appreciated the platform CAI-Asia has established which allowed the experience sharing.
